Environmentally responsible holiday lodges

December 2008

Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre is situated in 276 idyllic acres, less than 5 miles from delightful Rutland Water and a mile from the A1. In its own words, the Centre is 'Beyond Expectations', and proof of that comes in its innovative new development of eco holiday lodges.

The Centre is the result of a diversity plan set up 20 years ago by farmer Frank Hinch and his son Robert. When they decided to expand with holiday homes for sale and to let, they liked the idea of an environmentally responsible development. Norwegian Log lodges appealed because they are made from a natural material from a sustainable source.

'We discussed our plans with Norwegian Log, and found that they had accumulated a great deal of expertise in log technology and best practice in matters like insulation,' says Robert. 'We were attracted by the high level of natural insulation that log construction offers, because it saves on direct heating costs - a very obvious environmental benefit.'

The Norwegian Log lodges have underfloor heating that's economical as well as cosy, thanks to the estate's central wood chip boiler. This was also installed with sustainability in mind, and is fuelled from the estate's own woodland. The estate already has some 25,000 trees, and more are being planted.

'Norwegian Log's lodges are a wonderful match for our plans and ambitions here at Greetham Valley,' says Robert. 'Spacious, comfortable, frankly luxurious, yet still environmentally responsible.'
