Case studies - School pools

Norwegian Log has worked on many school swimming pool projects, and is familiar not only with the technical issues involved but also with the need to raise funds, sometimes over long periods, before construction can begin.

The new school swimming pool was constructed by Norwegian Log following a concerted fundraising operation by parents and staff.

The school swimming pool complex, built by Norwegian Log, is linked to the adjacent sports hall and is environmentally controlled by a sophisticated system that includes an automatic electric pool cover.

Better economic sense

The co-educational preparatory school at Handcross, West Sussex, already had a large, deep outdoor pool, but it was under-used because of its high maintenance and running costs. Parents felt that an enclosed, shallower pool made better economic sense and would provide year-round use. The new pool was constructed by Norwegian Log following a concerted fundraising operation by parents and staff.

Year-round use

Cumnor House, a school in West Sussex, needed a year-round swimming facility whose running costs could be met partly by hiring it out to other organisations. The pool complex, built by Norwegian Log, is linked to the adjacent sports hall and is environmentally controlled by a sophisticated system that includes an automatic electric pool cover.
