Looking for expert guidance on your Norwegian Log journey? Meet Peter Harrod, our accomplished Sales Manager. As he reaches his fourth anniversary with us this June, Peter's wealth of experience is invaluable in helping you realise your perfect log cabin.

Finance to Log Cabins: A Rich Experience

Peter's journey to Norwegian Log is rooted in decades of diverse sales experience. Before joining us in 2021, his career included a significant period in finance, starting in banking and progressing to secured loans and mortgages. Interestingly, his experience also includes a long career with playground equipment, the timber construction, providing a serendipitous link to our world of wood. Drawn by our offerings and the chance to apply his extensive sales skills, Peter embraced the new challenge, and as he says, "the rest is history."

The Nuances of Sales and Long-Term Vision

Peter's four years with Norwegian Log provide an insightful perspective on the psychology of sales, particularly with a considered purchase like a log cabin. "Experience teaches you," he noted with a thoughtful tone, "that initial assumptions can often be misleading. The clients who appear most certain might not proceed, while those who take a more measured approach can become your most committed customers." He underscores the importance of valuing every enquiry and approaching each interaction with professionalism and courtesy.

Peter's approach emphasises patience and understanding, recognising that a log cabin purchase is a significant decision. He values the process of truly understanding a client's needs and providing considered guidance. "Patience is key in this sector," Peter explained. "While every sales professional aims for a positive outcome with each client, a realistic understanding of timelines is essential." He shared a recent example of a client who first explored our Open Day last March and has now made the decision to move forward – illustrating the often-gradual nature of these projects.

Practical Advice for Potential Cabin Owners

For those planning a visit to our showroom or attending an Open Day, Peter's advice is grounded in practicality: preparation is valuable. He advises prospective owners to bring relevant visual aids, such as site photos, property plans, and any preliminary ideas for their cabin design. "The more context we have," Peter explained, "the more effectively we can assist you." He also recommends clients to take their own notes to aid recall.

Life Beyond Work: Family, Music, and Comedy

Outside of his professional life, Peter values his close family connections. He speaks with pride in his two daughters. Peter enjoys supporting his daughters' endeavours and sharing his personal interests with them, including attending live music events and comedy shows – clearly having instilled in them a discerning appreciation for the arts.

Knowing Peter's deep appreciation for music, and our shared leaning towards rock I couldn't resist asking about his ideal festival line-up. His thoughtfully curated selection revealed a broad and enthusiastic palate, ranging from Florence and the Machine to Iron Maiden, and having journeying to open air concerts in Germany and Italy to see live bands.

A Father's Pride: Spotlighting Alicia's Artwork

Peter shared with evident pride the artistic achievements of his daughter, Alicia, a talented illustrator known for her vibrant and detailed artwork, particularly featuring endangered animals, combined with flora and fauna. He mentioned her recent success at a vegan fair in Reading and a significant award winning feature cover for Mayfarer magazine, noting that she often showcases her artwork at fairs across the UK. During our interview, we had a special surprise for Peter: we'll be featuring a piece by Alicia in our renovated showroom cabin. Peter's reaction was genuinely touched and filled with pride, noting his appreciation and the diverse nature of Alicia's work.

It's warm and it's cosy; it's solid and it's quiet. The fragrance of pine reminds you of Scandinavian forests and summer evenings. Your imagination starts to take you places. You imagine a wood burner, perhaps a desk or why not just some space to think?

Our show home is 36 years old, yet customers still say it looks and feels brand new. That's the quality of our workmanship and the materials. When you step into a Norwegian Log building you're stepping into a feeling and just like our buildings it's one that will last.
