Meet a driving force behind the evolution of Norwegian Log: Sam Harrison-Weir, our brilliant Fit Out Team Leader. For the past three years, Sam has been instrumental in taking our beloved log cabins to a whole new level, adding a dimension of comfort and convenience that was once just a dream.

I had the genuine pleasure of chatting with Sam amidst the hustle and bustle, and his warmth and passion for his work were immediately infectious. As a devoted family man with four daughters, Sam brings that same caring and can-do attitude to his role here.

From Shell to Spectacular Interiors: An Innovation Story

Sam's journey with Norwegian Log started with a fascination for the traditional log cabin construction – a sentiment echoed by his dad, who envisioned one in his own garden! However, Sam saw even greater potential. He posed a simple yet transformative question: "Why aren't we doing the inside?" Historically, Norwegian Log focused on the exterior shell, but Sam, with the invaluable support and vision of Paul Williams, saw an opportunity to offer clients a complete, ready-to-enjoy log home.

"Customers were asking for kitchens, bathrooms, all the fixtures," Sam explained. "They didn't want the hassle of project managing the interiors themselves. We could do the lot!"

Sam's initiative has not only broadened Norwegian Log's offerings but has also instilled in him a newfound confidence. "It's given me the confidence that I didn't have coming into Norwegian Log," he shared. "I never believed I could do the things I've done because no one had given me the platform to do it before. But here, every time I suggest something, it gets thought about, and if we can do it, we'll do it."

Laying the Foundations for Dream Log Homes: Sam's Advice

Drawing on his extensive experience as a bespoke kitchen fitter for ten years prior to joining Norwegian Log, Sam offers invaluable advice to potential log cabin owners considering a fit out. Colour choices, he notes, are of particular importance. "I'll always go light colours when it comes to the cabins," Sam advises, "because even though we have a lot of windows, the reflection of the wood darkens it. Light greys, for example, can sometimes look a bit white."

Storage is another crucial consideration. "You're potentially going from a three-bed house to nothing in terms of built-in storage," Sam points out. He also cautions against the inclusion of kitchen islands, suggesting they are only truly practical in larger, open spaces to avoid compromising valuable table space.

Family Life and Future Sparks

Switching to his personal life, Sam proudly shared tales of his four daughters, ranging from a budding electrician inspired by her dad's work to a football-loving tomboy and a five-year-old with dreams of being a rock star, a firefighter, and a darts sensation like Luke Littler! It's clear that Sam's supportive and encouraging nature extends beyond the workplace. He also shared his pride in his wife, who is about to finish her nursing degree.

The Banter and Camaraderie: A Team That Feels Like Family

When asked about what he misses from his time working on the exterior of the cabins, Sam fondly recalled the summer months, the tanning on the roofs, and most importantly, "the banter with the boys." He highlighted the strong camaraderie amongst the Norwegian Log craftsmen.

"Like, everyone knows each other, all really trusted," he affirmed. "The customers know that they've got good people in their backyard, basically, or on their land." He also spoke highly of the younger members of the team, like Liam and Charlie, acknowledging their capabilities despite their youth. "These kids are more than capable of doing it," he stated confidently.

Speaking of his immediate team, Sam affectionately described Charlie as quiet but quick-witted, always ready with a comeback. Lewis, a newer member, even bears a resemblance to a certain famous chef! It's evident that Sam leads a team built on trust, respect, and a bit of good-natured humour.

Sam Harrison-Weir's journey embodies the spirit of innovation and dedication that defines Norwegian Log. He's not just leading the Fit Out team; he's helping to build complete havens for our clients, one meticulously crafted interior at a time. We are incredibly lucky to have his vision and leadership shaping the future of Norwegian Log.

It's warm and it's cosy; it's solid and it's quiet. The fragrance of pine reminds you of Scandinavian forests and summer evenings. Your imagination starts to take you places. You imagine a wood burner, perhaps a desk or why not just some space to think?

Our show home is 36 years old, yet customers still say it looks and feels brand new. That's the quality of our workmanship and the materials. When you step into a Norwegian Log building you're stepping into a feeling and just like our buildings it's one that will last.
