Meet Theo Ellis, our dedicated Log Cabin Installer at Norwegian Log. Since rolling with us at the end of January, Theo has quickly become an indispensable part of the crew, making log cabin dreams a solid reality from the initial groundwork right through to the final touches.

I had the chance to catch up with Theo out in the field, and despite the summer heat, his passion for the work was undeniable. He's still pretty fresh to Norwegian Log, having joined around the same time as me, making us fellow 'newbies'!

From Swimming Pools to Log Cabins: Leveling Up His Craft

Before crafting log cabins, Theo was a self-employed swimming pool pro near Andover. He told me that making the jump to an employed role was a welcome change, bringing some much-needed stability. What sparked the shift from general construction  something specialised; was the need for a more unique, hands-on craft.

In just five months, Theo has already tackled three full cabins and was already halfway through another when he started. That's a serious stack of logs! He’s worked on everything from compact garden rooms to sprawling residences, including one near Luton for some "lovely" customers and another at a horse breeding spot.

The locations have been diverse too, though nothing too wild yet, with most jobs within a two-hour drive. This means Theo can often head home during the week for local projects, which he says makes a big difference. He particularly enjoyed his recent beachside project where he could see the sea from our window – definitely a sweet perk of the job!

Global Adventures and Daily Wins

When he's not on the tools, Theo admits to some well-deserved chill time, though he does hit the gym. Travel is another major passion. He once crushed an incredible three-month trek across Europe, hitting 19 countries. His top pick was Croatia, specifically Split, and he was seriously impressed by Eastern Europe's diverse vibes, calling Albania "really, really good." He went to Tirana, which is inland, and also explored the coast of Albania, noting how beautiful and untouched it still is.

More recently, he just got back from Thailand, where he spent time exploring the jungle and soaking up the beach life. He mentioned that despite it being rainy, the different kind of heat made it enjoyable, and the sun would often break through.

Mastering the Craft: The Thrill of the Transform

Asked what he digs most about working at Norwegian Log, Theo pointed to the constant learning curve. "Definitely learned a lot about the cabins," he shared. "Even if you're someone who's good at carpentry, if you come into this at the start, because it's so niche and different, you have to be doing exactly this for a while to be really good at it." He feels like every day is a school day in this unique field.

His favourite part of the installation? Is the initial installation of the exterior cabin. "You get so much done in so little time," he explained. "It'll be nothing, and then two two days later you have all the walls up, all the logs up" He notes that customers are always blown away by how fast the cabin takes shape. "They come out and it's nothing, and then next day it's all put up." He fondly remembered a cool client, Martin, a farmer that gave the team a tour of his farm and animals.

Theo Ellis's dedication and rapid growth in his role prove he's got the skills and the drive to master the unique art of log cabin home. He's not just assembling structures; he's crafting complete havens for our clients, one perfectly placed log at a time. We're over the moon to have Theo as part of the Norwegian Log team.

It's warm and it's cosy; it's solid and it's quiet. The fragrance of pine reminds you of Scandinavian forests and summer evenings. Your imagination starts to take you places. You imagine a wood burner, perhaps a desk or why not just some space to think?

Our show home is 36 years old, yet customers still say it looks and feels brand new. That's the quality of our workmanship and the materials. When you step into a Norwegian Log building you're stepping into a feeling and just like our buildings it's one that will last.
