Wheels of Chaos: A Nicaraguan Tuk Tuk Adventure
At Norwegian Log, we are incredibly proud of the wonderful community that surrounds our cabins. Many of our log cabin owners share a love for the outdoors, adventure and making the most of life. Sometimes that spirit leads to something truly extraordinary.
Recently, two members of the Norwegian Log family, Liz Hasler and her daughter Jen, set off on an unforgettable journey across Nicaragua in a brightly decorated Tuk Tuk, taking part in the aptly named “Wheels of Chaos – Nicaragua TukTuk Challenge.”
And if you look closely, you might just spot a familiar logo travelling along for the ride.
From Log Cabin Owners to Tuk Tuk Explorers
Liz and Jen are not your average road trip team.
Liz is a long-standing Norwegian Log client and adventurer at heart, while Jen is an archaeologist, used to exploring ancient landscapes and uncovering the stories hidden within them. Together they formed the team “Wheels of Chaos”, embarking on a challenge that involves navigating across Nicaragua in a three wheeled Tuk Tuk with nothing but maps, teamwork and a good sense of humour.
Their Tuk Tuk quickly became something of a travelling noticeboard for the charities they are supporting. Proudly displayed on the side is our Norwegian Log logo, joining them on their journey across volcanoes, beaches and winding jungle roads.
Swerving Horses, Volcano Views and Tuk Tuk Survival
Their blog chronicles the realities of life on the road in Nicaragua and it is far from predictable.
From dodging wandering horses on rural roads to getting lost while navigating unfamiliar routes, the journey has been exactly what the challenge promises: chaotic, exciting and full of stories.
At one point the team found themselves weaving through countryside roads with volcanoes looming in the distance. On another day they celebrated the small but important victory of finishing a day’s drive with both Tuk Tuk and humans still in one piece.
Along the way they have experienced:
- Dramatic views of Nicaragua’s famous volcanic landscapes
- Long stretches of open road beneath huge skies
- Encounters with locals curious about their tiny three wheeled vehicle
- Moments of navigation confusion and plenty of laughter
Through it all, their Tuk Tuk has carried them faithfully from one adventure to the next.
Supporting Important Causes
The challenge is not just about adventure. Liz and Jen are also raising funds for several important charities:
- Orangutan Appeal UK
- APOPO (famous for training rats to detect landmines)
- MAP – Medical Aid for Palestinians
These organisations carry out vital humanitarian and conservation work around the world. The Tuk Tuk challenge is helping raise both funds and awareness for their efforts.
A Community That Celebrates Adventure
At Norwegian Log, we often say that our cabins are more than buildings. They are the backdrop to people’s lives, stories and adventures.
Seeing members of our community take on challenges like this reminds us why we love what we do. From quiet woodland retreats to international Tuk Tuk rallies, the spirit of adventure seems to follow our clients wherever they go.
We are delighted that Wheels of Chaos chose to take a small piece of Norwegian Log with them on their journey.
Support Wheels of Chaos
Liz and Jen have already raised an incredible amount, but every contribution helps support the charities they are championing.
