Rooted in Care: Rosamund’s Log Cabin Practice
Commercial Buildings
For Rosamund, a highly experienced osteopath based in Berkshire, creating her ideal practice space was more than a professional goal—it was a heartfelt return to the natural simplicity and warmth she cherished in childhood.
Completed in September 2024, her Norwegian Log cabin now stands not just as a place of work, but as a calming retreat that reflects her deep belief in treating the whole person.
A graduate of the European School of Osteopathy and registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), Rosamund has long felt an emotional connection to timber buildings. “I was brought up in a home which my stepfather had built for himself... we were just surrounded with wood,” she recalls. With her stepfather’s Scandinavian and Finnish roots, the dream of a wooden structure for her practice took shape naturally over time.
Overcoming Obstacles to Realise a Dream
The path to creating this dream space wasn’t without challenges. Early worries about affordability and finding reliable builders led her down a winding road of research. But then, she discovered Norwegian Log online. “I was just like, Oh, that's it. This is what I want!”
From there, things began to align. A dedicated planning consultant helped her navigate the hurdles of getting permission for business use. With a sloping garden, laying solid foundations became crucial, adding complexity to the project. Financially, Rosamund was fortunate to receive an early inheritance—allowing her to proceed without borrowing from friends and keeping her vision intact.
A notable challenge came when the initial planning permission restricted her to using just one room for treatments. “Alan went, ‘Well, it’s gonna be really expensive, then, if you have this building and can’t have another practitioner in the other room,’” Rosamund explains. With clever re-submission of the plans, they gained approval for “me plus another consultant or receptionist.” This foresight added flexibility—providing space not only for a colleague but also for Rosamund to relax and recharge.
A Space Designed for Well-Being
From initial inquiry to completion, the project took over two years. But the results are unmistakably worth it. The choice of slightly wavy oak flooring, rather than something polished and uniform, adds rustic charm and character. “It gives it more character,” Rosamund shares, noting how it perfectly complements the log cabin feel.
Inside her main treatment room, Rosamund cares for a wide range of patients—from babies and children to adults and seniors. The calming, grounded energy of the space is something her clients frequently comment on. While the cabin is kept cat-free for allergy-sensitive visitors, Rosamund fondly recalls her lilac Burmese cat providing unexpected entertainment during construction.
Her osteopathic philosophy, shaped by her training in biodynamic osteopathy, focuses on identifying and supporting the health already present in the body—rather than simply treating illness. “Anyone can find disease. Not so many people can find the health,” she reflects. This empowering perspective is at the heart of her work, as seen in patients who have experienced deep and lasting shifts—such as significant improvements with chronic bladder issues.
Continuing the Journey of Healing and Learning
Rosamund is passionately committed to lifelong learning. She regularly attends postgraduate courses, including a current program in women’s health that integrates structural techniques with deeper understanding of systemic imbalances.
Recently, a crystal therapy course in North Wales inspired her to incorporate elements of energy medicine into her work. This led to the addition of Himalayan salt lamps in her practice—contributing to the space’s serene, healing atmosphere. “You allow life to guide you,” she says. “And the right things find you.”
Partnering with Norwegian Log
Throughout her journey, Rosamund has felt deeply supported by the team at Norwegian Log. From the early planning phases to the final build—and even in handling small issues post-completion—the experience was, in her words, “remarkably smooth.” She praises their patience, responsiveness, and the way they respected her space and time during construction.
A practical tip she offers to others embarking on a similar path: plan carefully for accessibility. In hindsight, widening the pathway to allow for wheelchairs and double buggies—while an extra cost—was one of the most worthwhile decisions she made.
Rosamund’s log cabin is a heartfelt extension of her values, her history, and her approach to healing. Rooted in wood, wisdom, and warmth, it stands as a place of restoration—for both practitioner and patient.
It's warm and it's cosy; it's solid and it's quiet. The fragrance of pine reminds you of Scandinavian forests and summer evenings. Your imagination starts to take you places. You imagine a wood burner, perhaps a desk or why not just some space to think?
